Oriola-KD’s net sales in 2010 was EUR 1,9 billion. The number of employees was 5 381, of which two thirds worked in Russia.
Since 1.7.2006 when Oriola-KD was born as a result of demerger of Orion Corporation the Company has gone through a major transformation into a focused on pharmaceutical retail and wholesale company. Oriola-KD has expanded into new markets and into new business by entering into pharmaceutical retail and wholesale in Russia in 2008, and by starting up pharmaceutical retail operations in Sweden in 2010 in connection with the removal of the country’s pharmacy monopoly. The company is a leading player in the pharmaceutical wholesale business in Finland, and in the pharmaceutical retail and wholesale in both Sweden and Russia.
Oriola-KD in Russia
In Russia Oriola-KD operates both in pharmaceutical wholesale and retail businesses. Oriola-KD is the sixth largest wholesaler in Russia and covers approximately 80 % of the market through its 13 distribution centres of which the most eastern one is in Irkutsk. Oriola-KD’s main distribution centre and headquarters are located in Moscow. In pharmaceutical retail Oriola-KD operates through Stary Lekar and 03 Apteka brands and has more than 250 pharmacies in Moscow and Moscow region. Oriola-KD has invested some EUR 170 million to Russian operations since 2008. In 2010, the net sales of Russian operations were EUR 572 million, which represents 30 % of Oriola-KD’s net sales. The personnel in Russia at the end of the year numbered 3 381 representing 63 % of Oriola-KD’s total personnel.
