
Stockmann, established in 1862, is a Finnish listed company, one of the leading retailers in Northern Europe.
Stockmann’s three divisions are the Department Store Division and the Lindex and Seppälä fashion chains. The Stockmann Group’s store chains operate in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Group has a total of approximately 700 stores in thirteen countries (including franchise stores), and web stores in three countries.
Group net sales in 2009 were EUR 1,7 billion with international operations accounting almost half of that. More than half of the Group’s 15 000 employees work outside Finland.
The Stockmann Group is strongly focused on Russia. Stockmann’s first store outside Finland was opened in Moscow in 1989. Today, five of Stockmann’s fifteen department stores are situated in Moscow. There are also about 70 other Stockmann Group stores in Russia, all of them fashion chain stores. In November 2010, Stockmann’s Nevsky Centre shopping centre, with a retail and office floor space of 50 000 square metres, including the company’s flagship department store in Russia, was opened in the very centre of St. Petersburg. The next Stockmann department store in Russia will be opened in Ekaterinburg in March 2011. Also the Group’s fashion chains are continuing with their rapid expansion in Russia.
