In the Russian marine market, Wärtsilä is the market leader in ship propulsion equipment and diesel-electric power solutions. Wärtsilä’s main shipyard customers are located in St Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Kaliningrad, Volgograd and Komsomolsk on Amur. In the energy market, Wärtsilä delivers power plants for distributed power generation market to industrial companies, remote regions, municipalities, and to utility companies. Wärtsilä has delivered to Russia more than 50 power plants with a combined generating capacity of approximately 700 MW. In the Services business, Wärtsilä provides life-cycle support for its Power Plants and Ship Power customers.
In May 2010 Wärtsilä signed a joint venture agreement with Transmashholding to manufacture modern and multipurpose diesel engines in Russia. A subsidiary of Transmashholding, Bryansk Engineering Works, has a licence agreement to manufacture Wärtsilä low-speed marine diesel engines.
Wärtsilä opened an office in Moscow in 1981. Today, the company has offices in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Vladivostok, a service centre in Murmansk employing altogether more than 130 people. In 2011, Wärtsilä’s net sales to Russia were EUR 109 million.
In 2011, Wärtsilä’s net sales totalled EUR 4.2 billion with approximately 18,000 employees. The company has operations in nearly 170 locations in 70 countries around the world. Wärtsilä is listed on the NASDAQ OMX Helsinki, Finland.
