Fazer Group

In 1891, the young Karl Fazer opened his first café with a mission to make food with a purpose – and a passion to create moments of joy for all the people around him. It became Northern Magic. Made Real.

Today, Fazer is an international family-owned company offering quality bakery, confectionery, biscuit and grain products, plant-based meals, non-dairy products, on-the-go food & drinks as well as food and café services. The Group operates in nine countries and exports to around 40 countries. In 2018, Fazer Group had net sales of 1.6 billion euros and more than 15,000 employees. Fazer Group focuses on its fast-moving consumer goods and direct-to-consumer businesses and has agreed to sell Fazer Food Services to Compass Group PLC, subject to EU Commission competition approval.

In 2018, Fazer’s net sales in Russia amounted to 168 M€ – this account
for 11% of the Group’s net sales. Most of the net sales arise from the bakery business. Fazer is one of the leading bakery companies in Russia both in fresh bread and frozen bakery products. Fazer has three bakeries in St Petersburg and one in Moscow, and Fazer-branded bake-off units in Russian retail. Fazer employs nearly 2,500 persons in Russia. Fazer does also export its popular confectionery products from Finland to Russia and the brand is highly appreciated especially in St Petersburg. The main confectionery products are Geisha and Karl Fazer chocolate.
Fazer entered the Russian bakery market in 1997 with the acquisition of the Smolenskaya bakery in St Petersburg. Fazer has actively introduced best practices to the Russian bakery market. The management is local and local ingredients are used in production. Fazer is also committed to advancing corporate responsibility in Russia. This is done, for example, through partnerships and sponsoring, as well as quality, environmental and safety certification.
